Spanish

Why should I choose it?

Studying a language at GCSE may improve the choices you make for the rest of your life!  It is a multicultural world and companies are increasingly aware of the advantages of recruiting people with language skills.  According to recent estimates, almost 430 million people in the world speak Spanish and this number is increasing rapidly.

What does the course involve?

You will develop and reinforce the language skills you have already acquired over the last three years.  At GCSE, equal emphasis is placed on all four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Topics include identity and culture, local, national, international and global areas of interest and current and future study and employment. You can see the full specification at

What skills will I develop?

Language skills are highly valued by employers who operate in an increasingly global market.  Indeed, basic language skills can help you get more from life, whatever career you choose.  Particular emphasis is placed on the spoken language and communicating with accuracy and confidence in a variety of unpredictable situations.

How will I learn?

Spanish lessons will take place in a stimulating and exciting environment where you will be challenged to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.  Extra support is available within the department on a daily basis if necessary.  ICT plays an integral role in the delivery of Spanish at GCSE.
