Why should I choose it?
If you have good performing skills as a singer or instrumentalist, can read music and have a general interest in many types of Music, this course could be for you.
What does the course involve?
There are three Units:
Unit 1: Integrated Tasks which consists of one ‘free’ composition and one solo performance (30%).
Unit 2: Practical Portfolio consisting of one group performance and one composition based on a brief (30%).
Unit 3: Listening Paper which assesses your knowledge and understanding of a variety of prescribed musical styles and genres (40%).
What skills will I develop?
You will develop the confidence and ability to perform in public and learn new techniques to enable you to compose a piece of music in a particular genre. Your analytical skills, pertinent to many musical styles, will also be enhanced.
How will I learn?
By practising, rehearsing, listening and analysing different types of Music.
How will I be assessed?
Unit 1: Integrated Tasks - a recorded performance and a portfolio of work. (30%).
Unit 2: Practical Portfolio - a recorded performance and a portfolio of work (30%).
Unit 3: Listening Paper - a written paper, with CD, assessing knowledge and understanding of the four prescribed topics (40%).
What could a qualification lead to?
The opportunity to study Music at AS and A2 which, in turn, can lead to a career as a performer, teacher, lecturer, composer and journalist.
