Hockey
Extra-curricular Hockey at St Edward’s College is a fantastic opportunity for all pupils and students during the Advent and Lent terms. Participation in this activity helps to develop many important qualities in pupils, including teamwork, commitment, leadership and communication skills.
Teams consist of U12A and B, U13, U14, U15 and the College 1st XI, promoting the College’s core values of inclusiveness. Training for all teams takes place during lunchtimes and after school, making use of the College’s excellent floodlit astroturf facilities. Training incorporates the development of each individual’s existing skills through a variety of activities and practice matches. Improving fitness also plays a key role in helping pupils to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Teams mainly compete against different schools across the North West in friendly fixtures on a Saturday morning and in league matches on a Thursday evening at Wyncote, Allerton Road. The College's hockey teams have also developed a strong reputation at county and national tournaments.
Members of the Senior Hockey team take part in the annual Senior Sports Tour alongside netball, rugby and hockey players.
Pupils' participation and commitment to hockey is recognised by commendations awarded for outstanding achievements and contributions as part of the Colours Awards.
