Access Policy

Introduction

This policy statement sets out St Edward’s College’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to pupils/students at St Edward’s College for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with St Edward’s College’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

Student Entitlement

All pupils in Years 8 to 13 are entitled:
• to find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
• to hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
• to understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

Scope of the Policy

This policy complies with St Edward’s College’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997. It should be read in conjunction with the following school policies:

Roles and Responsibilities

Governors
Governors will monitor the implementation and ongoing compliance with the requirements of this policy. The policy will be reviewed by Governors every three years.

Principal
The Principal will ensure that the College will, in line with its delivery of Careers Education, Information and Guidance Policy, ensure that:

  • a range of opportunities for providers to visit the school and talk to pupils across Years 8 to 13 about technical education and apprenticeships are offered;
  • information about post-14 and post-16 providers is given to those pupils who have been identified by the Head of House as potentially benefitting from technical / vocational learning routes at Key Stage 4 / Key Stage 5.

Careers Coordinator
The Careers Coordinator will engage with providers and the College’s Careers Guidance provider to organise events and / or presentations for pupils to develop their understanding of technical education and apprenticeship opportunities and will monitor to ensure pupils have appropriate pathways to follow post-14 and post-16.

This Policy was adopted by the Governing Body in June 2022. The next review will be in June 2024.
