SEND Provision
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
An inclusive education finds a place for all and does not select in an elitist way the beneficiaries of its efforts.
Pope Francis
St Edward’s College is an inclusive school which promotes equality of opportunity for all pupils, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, attainment and background and are committed to encouraging every child to meet his/her full potential. We ensure that all pupils have access to the curriculum and to extra-curricular activities and offer support as necessary. The content of our P4L programme focuses on equality, respect and celebration of difference and diversity, and is accessible to all pupils.
SEND provision is the responsibility of all members of staff at the College, and we ensure that teaching staff are aware of, and sensitive to, the needs of all pupils and teach pupils in a way that is appropriate to their needs.
We make suitable provision for children with SEN to fully develop their abilities, interests and aptitudes and gain maximum access to the curriculum through the effective use of resources and by differentiation or scaffolding of elements of the curriculum. In addition, we work in partnership with parents/carers and relevant external agencies in order to provide for pupils’ special educational needs.

In accordance with The Code of Practice (DfE and DoH, 2015), when placed on the register, pupils and students will be placed into one of the four categories of need:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Pupils and students are treated equally and fairly as we offer a curriculum that stretches and develops all students to the best of their ability. Support is offered in the classroom through a differentiated curriculum and in-class support. The school ensures that staff are aware of the needs of all pupils and students who may be placed upon the SEN Register and we endeavour to cater for every pupil and student. A copy of the school’s Special Educational Needs Policy, which adheres to the Code of Practice (2015) and conforms to the relevant sections of the Children and Families Act (2014), is available on request from the College.
