Principal's Welcome
Welcome to St Edward’s College. It is a privilege to introduce myself as the Principal of this distinguished Catholic school for pupils aged 11-18. At St Edward’s, we believe that education is more than preparation for the next stage of life - it is the foundation upon which we build our future. These formative years shape our minds, our hearts and our characters.
St Edward’s College is part of the Edmund Rice family of schools, founded by the Christian Brothers and inspired by the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. Our school proudly serves as the choir school for Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, where our pupils regularly lead choral worship. Twenty percent of our intake is selected based on musical aptitude, while the remaining places are allocated according to our admissions policy, welcoming young people of all abilities who seek a traditional, academic curriculum within an explicitly Catholic culture.
At St Edward’s, we focus on nurturing young people who embody the virtues necessary to lead with wisdom and compassion. Our mission, Making a Positive Difference, reflects our commitment to inspiring pupils to live out their discipleship of Jesus Christ and become “men and women for others.” Leadership, at its core, is about making good things happen - lifting others up and leaving a positive mark on the world. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, in the recital room, or on an expedition, we equip our pupils with the ambition, strong qualifications and strength of character needed to transform the world for the better.
The five keys to being an Edwardian are principles that guide our daily lives:
• Be Proud: Carry yourself with dignity and confidence, as Psalm 139:14 reminds us, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
• Join In: Be part of something greater than yourself, knowing that, as Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour.”
• Grow in Faith: Deepen your relationship with God, for as Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
• Treat People Well: Live by the Golden Rule from Matthew 7:12, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”
• Work Hard: As Colossians 3:23 instructs, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
St Edward’s College is a place where pupils are both challenged and supported. With outstanding examination results and high standards in music and sport, we are proud to be one of the foremost Catholic schools in England.
